FUTURE PROJECTS

Greenbelt between Rainer Lane and Oak Bay road

This greenbelt drains the area on the west side of Rainer lane and the area south of Swansonville road from Rainer Lane down to Oakbay road.  The homes on Camano Lane, Resolute lane and Goliah Lane also dump there water in this greenbelt.  Starting at the top of the greenbelt a culvert feeds water from the west side of Rainer into the greenbelt.  A ditch, formed by the flow of the water, proceeds down the greenbelt to a point where the water from Camano Lane feeds into it and at that point it appears that the ditch has been enhanced by the use of a backhoe at some time in the past.  Shortly past the west end of Resolute lane the ditch levels out and the water tends to spread out and a large portion heads toward Cascade lane on the south side of the Greenbelt.  During a heavy rain the flow toward Cascade becomes quite strong and creates problems for the residents in that area.  That water that remains in the greenbelt continues to flow eastward through three private lots, back into the greenbelt and exits at the junction of Swansonville road and Oak Bay road.

The ditch as it is currently present a source of possible injury as well as further erosion as water continues to flow during heavy rainfalls.  We are looking at ways to mediate the erosion as well as controlling the flow of the water and keeping it with in the confines of the greenbelt.  This is a large and costly project and will cause the loss of a large number of trees in the greenbelt.  Again it will be done in stages and is likely to take two to three years to accomplish.  As the plans become finalized we will put them on the website.
